Alabama Football: Details surrounding Ruggs incident emerge

We’ve learned more about Alabama football’s Henry Ruggs’ incident

Earlier this week, it was reported that Alabama football’s Henry Ruggs was involved in a driving accident that took someone’s life. Ruggs was charged with a DUI that resulted in death. The day after, more details emerged. They provide context to the horrific situation that took place.

Ruggs had his bond hearing, which provided the public with the details regarding the incident. In his booking photo, he is seen wearing a padded neck brace, and he has a scratch across his nose.

The victim of the car crash was a 23-year-old woman named Tina Tintor, and her dog died in the accident as well. Moments before impact, Ruggs was driving 156 miles per hour. When his airbags deployed, the former Alabama football receiver was still going 127 miles per hour.

Outside of the speed, another staggering number was Ruggs’ BAC. Within the two hours necessary after the accident, his blood-alcohol level was .161%, which is more than twice the legal limit to operate a vehicle.

Ruggs’ girlfriend also sustained major injuries. She was a passenger in Ruggs’ car, and she had to undergo surgery.

Depending on how the prosecutor decides to handle this, Ruggs could face up to 46 years in prison. There is no possible probation in Nevada for a DUI that results in death. He could also be charged again for the injuries his girlfriend sustained, and he also possessed a firearm while impaired. A loaded gun was found in the car, which could add to the sentence.

Ruggs’ bail was posted at $150 thousand. He paid it and is now instructed to stay at home while being monitored without driving or consuming alcohol. He will be back in court next week for the next steps.

The Raiders subsequently released Ruggs, but that is the least of his worries at the moment. As more details surrounding his case are released, we will cover them.
