Alabama football is motivated heading into this week

Two years ago, Alabama football suffered a devastating loss at the hands of the LSU Tigers. It ended Tua’s Heisman hopes, and it led to LSU going undefeated and winning a national championship. That one outcome launched the idea that LSU was building a dynasty that would compete with the Tide, but it all came crashing down the next year.

Now, LSU is traveling back to Tuscaloosa for the first time since that game. Ed Orgeron is coaching in his last season with the Tigers, and LSU is without most of the contributors on their secondary.

Alabama football got revenge last season when the Tide smoked the Tigers. DeVonta Smith had a career day and reeled in a Heisman-moment reception over Derek Stingley Jr. That was cathartic for the Tide, but this will be one last opportunity for them to avenge the loss from 2019.

Playing at home changes things. The crowd will include plenty of fans who witnessed the 2019 loss. The stadium will be packed at night as Alabama tries to show everyone why LSU was a one-hit wonder.

Most of Alabama football’s starters from that game are now in the NFL, but other contributors are still on the team. Slade Bolden was a fourth-down back in that game, and Brian Robinson was on the roster. That loss was painful for everyone involved, not just the key contributors.

To add insult to injury, Alabama football will be remembering the 2011 championship team with a ceremony. This was the year that Alabama dominated against LSU in New Orleans, so this will be a reminder of LSU’s past with the Crimson Tide.

By the time LSU comes back to Tuscaloosa, all the main players from the 2019 roster will be gone. Ed Orgeron will be out of Baton Rouge, and the promises he made after the game will be proven lies. This is Alabama football’s last chance to rub salt in the wound.
