Many Alabama Football fans did not share Nick Saban’s relief for a win over LSU. After the game, message boards and social media were filled with angry indictments, most aimed at Bill O’Brien. Alarmingly, more than a few apparent Tide fans attacked Nick Saban for no longer being an effective coach. Let’s chalk that up to too much alcohol or stupidity or the dangerous combination of both.

Count me as a relieved and alarmed Alabama Crimson Tide fan. And not in the camp of ‘Saban has lost it’ or that BOB is the Tide’s most serious problem. Alabama Football may yet become a championship team, but at least on offense, it played nothing like one Saturday night.

More important than my five takeaways below is what Nick Saban said after the game.

From Charlie Potter,

"That was a great win for our team. We were in a lot of tough, competitive situations, and guys responded well, made plays when we needed to make them, especially on defense. I know that sometimes we have an expectation that we’re going to win easy, but sometimes it’s not so easy. All in all, we won and you can’t complain."

Saban also said LSU played a really good game. They did, and a hat tip to them from one who thought they would start strong, then fold and lose by five touchdowns. With that confession, let’s move on to the takeaways.
