Alabama Football: Studs in Duds in Bama Win over Tigers
By Ronald Moody
Offensive Effort
Three hundred-six yards of total offense cannot become the staple of Alabama football.
Here are the offensive stats for the other three teams battling for the College Football Playoff:
- Georgia 505 yards
- Oregon 427 yards
- Ohio State 495 yards
The offensive line missed blocks, gave up four sacks, no push in the running game, and had a mess of penalties. Starting center Darrian Dalcourt left early with an ankle sprain. His loss shuffled the line, moving right tackle Chris Owens to center and an untested Damien George in at right tackle.
During his postgame press conference, Coach Saban discussed the struggling offensive line,
"“We didn’t block them up front really well. We didn’t run the ball very well on offense. We couldn’t run it at the end of the game when we needed to. We weren’t as effective on third down. We had some protection issues. A lot of things that we can fix, and I think we need to fix them so we can be a little more consistent."
