Alabama football’s report card vs. LSU

Offensive Line: F

Alabama football’s offensive line may be the worst of the Nick Saban era. Against a defensive front that has yet to shine, this unit could not give Bryce Young enough time to think. Some issues were with miscommunication, but others were simple execution.

Alabama shifted Chris Owens to center when Darrian Dalcourt went down with an ankle injury, but there were still issues. Owens is a veteran, but he has not lived up to the standard this season. You don’t want to blame all of Alabama’s woes on the offensive line, but they certainly lower the ceiling for this team.

Right now, Alabama football fans are thinking ahead to when they play Georgia. Simply put, this offensive line has no chance of stopping the Bulldogs front if they don’t improve drastically.

Defensive Line: A-

Phil Mathis is one of the best defensive linemen of the Saban era. He has an impact similar to Dalvin Tomlinson. No one discusses what he brings to the table, but he disrupts almost every play.

When this game got ugly, Alabama relied on the defensive front to limit LSU. They made a difference as the Tigers were trying to get into a rhythm. Max Johnson had no time to throw, and Mathis was the mauler we all thought he could be.
