This preseason Power Ranking is not a prediction of how good or bad any of these teams will be as the season progresses. It is simply a ‘before the first tipoff’ of how each SEC team compares to other SEC teams.

Preseason SEC Basketball Power Ranking

  • No. 1 – Kentucky Wildcats – The Cats were a dreadful 9-16 last season. Never afraid of massive roster turnover, John Calipari has probably made the greatest roster upgrade in the SEC. In his strong group of new players, Cal brought in the SEC’s assist leader last season. He is former Georgia Bulldog, Sahvir Wheeler. With Wheeler’s passing skills (he can score as well) the Cats will be much better offensively. He has plenty of new teammates who can finish.
  • No. 2 – Tennessee Vols – The Vols had a quick exit from the NCAA Tournament last season, losing to Oregon State. Rick Barnes had outstanding recruiting success for the second straight season. If guard, Kennedy Chandler lives up to his one-and-done billing, the Vols will be a 20 win team.
  • No. 3 – Arkansas Razorbacks – No coach accomplishes more with the transfer portal than Eric Musselman. Finishing at 25-8 last season, after an Elite Eight loss to National Champion, Baylor, the Razorbacks could be better this season. Musselman lost his best two players in Moses Moody and Justin Smith. His new players can make up for those departures and more.
