Alabama Game Saturday: Crimson Tide vs. Arkansas odds and prediction for week 12 game
By Ronald Evans
Saturday afternoon in Bryant-Denny Alabama will host the Arkansas Razorbacks. Last season in Fayetteville, the Alabama Crimson Tide rolled over the Razorbacks 52-3. It was the worst of seven losses for Arkansas in the 2020 season. No matter the odds for success, the Hogs will seek payback for last season.
The Razorbacks opened the 2021 season with wins over Rice, Texas, Georgia Southern and Texas A&M. The four wins elevated them to No. 8 in the AP Poll. The Georgia Bulldogs brought them back to reality with a 37-0 beating. Two more losses followed to Ole Miss and Auburn and the Hogs disappeared from any poll’s Top 25. They are currently on a three-game winning streak, beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Mississippi State and LSU. The Hogs are currently ranked No. 21 in the AP Poll.
The series between Alabama and Arkansas only goes back to 1962. The two schools only played twice before Arkansas joined the SEC. The overall record favors Alabama 24-7. The Crimson Tide has beaten the Razorbacks 14 consecutive games going back to 2007.
Why Alabama Will Win
Alabama will win because it is the better team. That statement is not made as a slight to Sam Pittman’s team. Arkansas has some outstanding players, especially wide receiver, Treylon Burks. Hogs’ quarterback K.J. Jefferson is a very good, dual-threat QB. Jefferson is the second-leading rusher for the Razorbacks and is completing 65 percent of his passes.
The Arkansas rushing attack is No. 2 among SEC teams and No. 6 in the FBS. They are No. 1 in the SEC and No. 8 in the FBS defensively in opponent, third-down conversions.
Alabama must play well on Saturday or an upset could take place. For that to occur, the Crimson Tide would have to play below its abilities in multiple areas and give the Razorbacks a significant turnover advantage.
Sam Pittman has built a team that plays with a lot of heart. They will not back down.
What Will Happen
The Crimson Tide has injury concerns at running back, but they should not affect the outcome of the game. The Tide defense has been good against the run lately. It will have to be again on Saturday. Look for Bryce Young to have considerable success. The Hogs don’t excel at pressuring QBs and Young will exploit holes in their zone coverage.
