Alabama vs. Oakland Prediction Tonight
The last game of an opening season homestand has Oakland visiting the Crimson Tide Friday night in Tuscaloosa. Oakland opened last season with nine straight losses before improving and finishing the season at 12-18. The Grizzlies are 2-1 this season, with a surprise road upset of Oklahoma State and a seven-point loss on the road to West Virginia.
The two teams have played twice before. The most recent game was in 2013 in Tuscaloosa with the Alabama Crimson Tide beating Oakland by twenty points. The Grizzlies are coming off a Wednesday night win, 80-59 over Toledo.
Oakland is a tough defensive team. This season, opponents are shooting less than 22 percent from outside the arc and only 38.7 percent overall. The Grizzlies lineup is led by 6’7″ senior forward, Jamal Cain, who is both their leading scorer and leading rebounder. Their bench is not deep and only four players average more than six points per game. Five of their top eight players are freshmen.
For the Crimson Tide, Juwan Gary is listed as day-to-day after his ankle injury. A decision on whether he plays will not be made until pre-game warmups.
The Crimson Tide is ranked as the nation’s No. 14 team in the AP Poll rankings and No. 19 by Ken Pomeroy. Oakland is ranked No. 150 by KenPom.
The prediction is the 3-0 Tide will win covering the 16 point spread. Oakland may present some problems for the Tide but a focused Alabama team should prevail and pull away in the second half.
