Alabama football has a bad history on the road vs. Auburn
The Iron Bowl is on the horizon, and Alabama football is looking to end the regular season with a win against its bitter rival. While the Tide are the superior team, fans know that anything can happen when these teams face off.
In fact, Alabama football has lost the last two games inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, and they’re 1-3 in the last four road games against the Tigers. This means that no current player has won in Jordan-Hare, and this is the last chance for most upperclassmen to get a road win in the Iron Bowl.
The last time Alabama won at Auburn was in 2015. Let’s take a look back at the 2015 Iron Bowl and recap the Tide’s last win in this haunted stadium.
Alabama was playing in its first game at Jordan-Hare since the Kick Six, and the Tide needed a win to stay in the College Football Playoff race. Thankfully, they had a Heisman hopeful carry the way.
Henry ran for 271 yards on 46 carries. He essentially put the offense on his back, and the Tigers could not stop him. This was Henry’s Heisman moment.
Besides Henry’s play, the offense used Ardarius Stewart and Calvin Ridley evenly. Jake Coker made a few nice plays, and the Tide won 29-13.
Despite the score, this game was close for the majority of it. Auburn had the ball in the fourth quarter when they were only down by six. However, the Tigers offense got nowhere in this one. They only had 261 total yards. To put that into perspective, Derrick Henry singlehandedly outgained the Auburn Tigers in the 2015 Iron Bowl.
After this game, Alabama won the SEC. Henry won his Heisman, and Alabama football beat Clemson to win its first title of the College Football Playoff era.
Now, Alabama is looking to beat the Tigers again in Jordan-Hare. If they can follow it up with a national title and a Heisman Trophy, that would be a lovely bonus.
