Alabama football’s report card vs. Auburn

Running Backs: B-

Brian Robinson is Alabama’s only consistent back at this point in the year. Trey Sanders has plenty of potential and is a good receiver, but Robinson is receiving the lion’s share of the snaps due to Alabama’s lack of depth. The Tide lost three backs already this season, so the run game lives with Robinson.

To start this game, Alabama mostly abandoned the run. This was because of the offensive line more than Robinson. Still, Alabama had no run presence in the first half, turning them into a one-dimensional offense.

Robinson went down with an injury in the second half, but he thankfully came back. He made a play in the fourth quarter before going down again. At this point, his health is the biggest concern for the Crimson Tide.

Wide Receivers: C+

While younger players have seen more reps as the season has progressed, the majority of touches go to Jameson Williams and John Metchie. It is easy to see why. Regardless of the matchup, they win consistently. Williams is becoming one of the best transfers in the history of Alabama football.

Williams has speed that can’t be stopped. He simply outruns the defense when his routes fail. Drops have been an issue, but the talent from this group can change the outlook of any game.

However, Jameson Williams was ejected for targeting on a punt return. He had a minimal impact on the game before the ejection. With him out, no one stepped up in his place. Alabama needed someone to make a play, and no one did until Jacorey Brooks made the touchdown catch in the fourth quarter.

Still, credit Slade Bolden for making the touchdown catch in overtime.
