Alabama Football: Tide’s report card in Iron Bowl vs. Auburn

Alabama football’s report card vs. Auburn
Quarterback: C
Heading into this game, Bryce Young was the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy. A poor performance by C.J. Stroud cleared the way for Young to win the award if he carries the Tide through the next two games.
Let’s be fair to Young. He had no time to throw the ball. When he scrambled, nothing was open. His best target was out for the game with a targeting penalty. He had to be a hero, but he had nothing on his side.
Still, Young struggled on the few chances to throw the ball. He also muffed the snap on fourth down in the fourth quarter. It was a poor snap, but Young still struggled. You can’t put the poor performance on him, but he had a chance to take over this game and failed to do so. It’s not fair to say he should have saved the Tide, but you can’t discredit his errors because other players made worse plays.
Punter: B
James Burnip punted on all of Alabama football’s drives in the first half, but he pinned the Tigers back inside the five with the first one. He got the second punt inside the 20. This was a game of field position to start the game, and the punting helped Alabama in that battle.
You can’t say that Alabama won or lost this game because of punting the ball. He did his job, but the problem was that he was on the field too often.
Kicker: P
Will Reichard didn’t see the field after the opening kickoff until the third quarter, and Paul Tyson fumbled the hold. When he could finally get his cleat on the ball, he scored.
Reichard gets a pass. At the end of the day, one field goal doesn’t matter if the Tide can’t score a touchdown.
