Alabama football needs a perfect performance this week

So far, Alabama football has seen elite performances in spurts. The offense took over against Arkansas. The defense carried the way against LSU and Auburn. We may see a few drives of greatness, but something would go wrong in later quarters.

With the regular season over, this can no longer happen. Alabama may reach the College Football Playoff without beating Georgia, but the only way for the Crimson Tide to control their own destiny is to win the rest of their games.

That starts in the SEC Championship against the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia has easily been the best team in college football so far this year. They have an elite defensive front that has wreaked havoc on every team so far. They run the ball well, and Stetson Bennett has been a reliable option for the Bulldogs.

Alabama football is out of time to improve. They face the biggest test of the year this Saturday, and they need to bring it all if they want to win.

If you look ahead, Alabama likely needs to beat Georgia twice to win a title. It starts with the SEC Championship. The good news is that Alabama has shown the ability to win with each position group. They just haven’t put all the pieces together for one game.

If any group struggles this weekend, the Bulldogs will exploit it. The secondary has to play like it did against Auburn. The offensive line needs its best performance of the season. Bryce Young needs another Heisman moment, but it must happen for four quarters instead of the final drive.

This is a tall order, but that is what it will take to beat the Bulldogs. If Alabama puts it all together, they can beat Georgia and make it to the College Football Playoff. We’ll see this Saturday if that is in the cards for the SEC West champions.
