2021 SEC Championship Game Preview: No. 3 Alabama vs No. 1 Georgia

When: Saturday, December 4 at 4:00 pm ET on CBS

Location: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA

Needing a win to make the College Football Playoff, Alabama takes on Georgia in the 2021 SEC Championship Game, a series the Crimson Tide have owned in recent meetings.

The Crimson Tide are coming off a 24-22 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl a week ago, a game that included a phenomenal fourth quarter comeback to force overtime, and was eventually won in four overtimes. A game in which the Crimson Tide struggled in a few areas, arguably the biggest takeaway was the dominant performance of the Alabama defense who held the Tigers to only 159 yards of total offense.

The Crimson Tide come into this game ranked No. 3 in the CFP rankings, and as mentioned previously will likely need a win in Atlanta to make the Playoff this season. Alabama sits at 11-1 on the year (7-1 in SEC), and are averaging 42.3 PPG offensively so far this season, while also allowing 19.9 PPG to opponents.

Georgia on the other hand are coming off a dominant 45-0 win over Georgia Tech a week ago, the eighth time this season that the Bulldogs have held an opponent under 10-points. A truly dominant showing, Georgia out-gained the Yellow Jackets 463-166 in total yardage, while also not being penalized once in the contest.

The Bulldogs are ranked as the consensus No. 1 team in the country, and are likely secured a spot in the CFP this season even with a loss to the Crimson Tide. Undefeated at 12-0 (8-0 in SEC), head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are averaging 40.7 PPG offensively, as well as allowing only 6.9 PPG to opponents this season, which is tops in the country.
