Sometime Wednesday morning Alabama Football will get its first official 2022 class signee. More than 15 players are expected to sign on the first day of the NCAA Early Signing Period. The Alabama Football program will have an outstanding class, filled with many elite recruits. The Crimson Tide is expected to finish with the No. 1 class.
The actual finishing point will likely not be Wednesday or even this week. A few prospects intend to wait for later decisions, perhaps as late as February’s Signing Day. Due to the explosive growth of the Transfer Portal, additions for next season may not be complete until sometime next spring.
Currently, the Crimson Tide has 21 verbal commits. A small amount of attrition is expected. From a basis of 19 current commits, this prediction has a total of 25 players signing with the Crimson Tide this week. Recruiting insiders believe the Tide is prepared to add 27 to 29 players.
Technically, the class could be 32 players. The NCAA gave a one-time waiver for up to seven additional scholarships to allow teams to replace certain ‘transfer-exit’ players. The problem with the waiver is when the 2022 cycle is finished, including all new signees and joining transfers, the scholarship limit will still be 85 players.
Full disclosure: These predictions are carefully considered but Bama Hammer has no direct contact with recruits or their families.
