Alabama Football: Looking at ’22 roster numbers and position groups
By Ronald Evans
2022 Alabama Football Quarterbacks
- Bryce Young
- Jalen Milroe or Paul Tyson or Ty Simpson
Having four scholarship quarterbacks is adequate depth. Having only three is shaky. The problem in this position group being Paul Tyson would probably best be served by moving to a school where he can play.
Crimson Tide Running Backs
After a Brian Robinson Jr. exit to the NFL, the Tide will have seven running backs, including Kendrick Law who could play other positions.
Returning Running Backs – Jase McClellan, Trey Sanders, Roydell Williams and Camar Wheaton
New Running Backs – Emmanuel Henderson, Jamarion Miller and Kendrick Law
Possible Addition – Jahmyr Gibbs
It is hard to believe the chances for playing time would keep all eight in Tuscaloosa.
Wide Receivers
Two NFL exits by Jameson Williams and John Metchie III will leave the Tide with 13 wideouts.
Returning Receivers – Javon Baker, Ja’Corey Brooks, JoJo Earle, Traeshon Holden, Christian Leary, Thaui Jones-Bell, Slade Bolden and Agiye Hall
New Receivers – Aaron Anderson, Isaiah Bond, Antonio Kite, Kobe Prentice and Shazz Preston
Potentially Possible Addition – Kayshon Boutte
Tight Ends
Returning Tight Ends – Jahleel Billingsley, Robbie Ouzts, Cameron Latu and Caden Clark
New Tight Ends – Elijah Brown and Amari NiBlack
Six is probably enough for the position group with one or two offensive lineman also being used in power sets. Five is probably not enough.
Offensive Line
Evan Neal will be a first-round pick and it makes no sense for him to return. Chris Owens will try the NFL as well.
Returning Offensive Linemen – Tanner Bowles, Emil Ekiyor Jr., Seth McLaughlin, James Brockermeyer, J.C. Latham, Terrence Ferguson II, Javion Cohen, Darrian Dalcourt, Damieon George Jr., Tommy Brown, Tommy Brockermeyer, Jaeden Roberts and Amari Kight
New Offensive Linemen – Tyler Booker, Elijah Pritchett and Dayne Shor
This position group is likely to see two or more of the 16 players transfer out.
