Does Alabama football have the biggest chance to win a championship?
The College Football Playoff is right around the corner, and four teams are fighting to end the year at the top of the college football world. Alabama football is the top team, but each team has a reason to believe they can win it all. Alabama has already beaten Georgia, but the Bulldogs were at the top of college football for most of the year. Michigan has a stout defense, and Cincinnati is the only undefeated team in the College Football Playoff.
Each team has a chance of winning it all, but the chances vary significantly. Here is where I would place each team’s chances with a few days before the College Football Playoff begins.
Cincinnati: 5%
The Bearcats have the toughest team in the first round, and they don’t match up well with any team. They didn’t face any true competition this year besides Notre Dame, and they struggled against inferior opponents.
Cincy has elite corners and a balanced offense, but that won’t be enough against Alabama football. If they beat the Tide, they won’t make it past Michigan or Georgia.
Michigan: 10%
Michigan has an easier first game than Cincinnati, but they’re still underdogs against Georgia. The Wolverines, however, have a defense that can pressure Stetson Bennett. If the offense can put a few scoring drives together, they could make it to the national championship. Then, they could look to get pressure on Bryce Young with their pass rush.
Georgia: 40%
Georgia should beat Michigan, but they’ll be underdogs in the rematch against Alabama football. No one thought the Tide could beat Georgia in the SEC Championship, but the script has already flipped.
It’s hard to beat a team twice in one year, so Alabama will have to come up with a new plan if they see UGA again. They’re also less healthy. Still, the Tide are slight favorites in my eyes.
Alabama: 45%
Alabama football is a favorite, but it’s not like previous seasons. This is a two-team race, and Georgia has the talent to beat the Tide. They failed to do so in the SEC Championship, but the talent is on paper. If they can turn the potential into production, they could win it all.
I expect Alabama to win it all, but this could go in a variety of ways.
