Alabama Baseball 2022 Season Preview: Infield
By Matt Melton
Jim Jarvis
The third and final returning starter in Alabama Baseball’s 2022 infield is Jarvis, the Crimson Tide’s starting shortstop in 2021.
Transitioning to the other side of the middle infield after seeing time primarily at second base in 2020 as a freshman, Jarvis enjoyed a strong season defensively, as well as slashing .237/.362/.306 at the plate with a 26:16 BB:K ratio. In addition to that, Jarvis also drove in a total of 17 runs with a team-high three triples, as well as stealing five bases which ranked second for the Crimson Tide.
The junior has drawn a total of 11 more walks across his first two seasons in Tuscaloosa than strikeouts, along with posting a combined .680 OPS across 74 games. While Jarvis has yet to hit a home run across his first two years with the Crimson Tide, the junior is however coming off a phenomenal showing in the Cape Cod League last summer where he slashed .289/.378/.453 with four home runs and eight stolen bases across 36 games with the Wareham Gatemen.
While Williamson and Denton previously are also set for big 2022 seasons, you could certainly argue that Jarvis is set for the biggest breakout campaign from any member of the Crimson Tide’s infield coming off an impressive showing last summer. Expect Jarvis to once again be Alabama’s starting shortstop in 2022, as well as see occasional time at second and third base also.
2022 Season Prediction: .270 AVG, .400 OBP, .390 SLG, .790 OPS, 3 HR, 24 RBI, 10 SB
