It will be a busy weekend for Alabama Softball with two games Friday, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. It is the opening homestand for the Crimson Tide and two of the five games provide a good opportunity to build the Tide’s resume against a ranked team.

After opening the season, going 4-0 in Arizona, Alabama Softball is ranked No. 2 in all four of the national polls. The main competition in this weekend’s Easton Bama Bash will come from Virginia Tech. The Hokies are ranked No. 8 in the polls.

The Tide’s other opponents for the weekend are Evansville and Middle Tennessee. The Tide will open against Evansville at 1:30 CST on Friday, followed by a game against Virginia Tech at 4:00 CST. The Saturday schedule is Virginia Tech at 1:30 CST and Middle Tennessee at 4:00 CST. The closing game of the weekend is Sunday at 1:30 CST against Middle Tennessee.

Last weekend, against Southern Utah, Oregon State, New Mexico and No. 9 ranked Arizona, the Crimson Tide had a team batting average of .366. Seven different Crimson Tide players hit a total of 10 home runs in the four games, led by freshman Megan Bloodworth who slammed three home runs. Bloodworth had an amazing experience of hitting a grand slam home run in her very first college at-bat.

Patrick Murphy used four different pitchers in Arizona. The quartet allowed only four earned runs and combined for 33 strikeouts. Two of the Tide’s pitchers, Montana Fouts and Lexi Kilfoyl were chosen for USA Softball’s watch list for Player of the Year. Crimson Tide All-American, infielder, Kaylee Tow was also selected.

Alabama Softball coach, Patrick Murphy added nine new players to the Tide’s roster this season. Three of the nine are transfer players, along with six freshmen.

Patrick Murphy’s Crimson Tide home record is 623-103, including a 604-99 record at Rhoads Stadium. Murphy’s overall career, head coaching record is 1125-31. All but 28 of those wins have come as the Crimson Tide head coach.

The Crimson Tide regularly hosts the Easton Bama Bash and has a 93-11 all-time record in the event.
