For Alabama Crimson Tide fans, losing to Kentucky in Lexington was disappointing after the big first-half lead. To an extent, what went on in Tuscaloosa over the weekend swept the disappointment away.
Alabama Crimson Tide baseball and softball combined to go 8-0 at home over the weekend. Alabama Baseball swept Xavier with three wins. Alabama Softball won five games, including a win over Evansville and two-game sweeps of Middle Tennessee and No. 8 ranked Virginia Tech.

- Friday, Feb. 18 – The Crimson Tide took a 10-2 run-ruled victory over the Evansville Aces. Jaala Torrence (2-0) got the win for the Tide, giving up six hits and getting 10 strikeouts. Ally Shipman led the Tide batters with two hits, including a home run and three RBIs.
- Also on Friday, Montana Fouts pitched a 3-hit shutout in an Alabama Crimson Tide 1-0 win over Virginia Tech. In the chilly weather, the Tide got just two hits. Only one was needed as Abby Doerr hit a solo home run.
- Saturday, Feb. 19 – Lexi Kilfoyl shut out the Hokies, giving up nine hits and getting seven strikeouts. The Tide won 2-0. Ally Shipman’s two-run home run was all the offense the Tide needed.
- Saturday, Feb. 19 – Alex Salter was in the circle for Patrick Murphy against Middle Tennessee. She pitched a 3-hit shutout, with the Crimson Tide winning an 8-0, run-ruled game in the fifth inning. Ally Shipman and Jordan Stephens had two RBIs each as the Tide produced a large number of runs from just six hits.
- Sunday, Feb. 20 – The second Middle Tennessee game went six innings. Montana Fouts got the win with a 3-hit, 13-strikeout shutout. Ashley Prange and Jordan Stephens homered for the Tide. See Stephens’ walk-off homer in the tweet below.
Patrick Murphy’s team is now 9-0 on the season. The Tide appears to have a powerful combination of pitching and hitting, making it one of the nation’s top teams.
Alabama Crimson Tide Baseball Opening Weekend Results
Brad Bohannan’s Crimson Tide baseball took three games from the Xavier Musketeers. The Friday and Saturday games were hard-fought, 5-4 wins. Sunday’s game was won by the Tide in strong fashion, 9-4.
The Tide’s winning pitchers in the opening series were Brick Guffey, Hunter Furtado and Grayson Hitt. Guffey also recorded a save.
In the young season, four Crimson Tide batters are hitting .400 or better; William Hamiter, Jim Jarvis, Caden Rose and Tommy Seidl.
