Alabama Basketball has another SEC road game tonight against the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville. The Crimson Tide needs to regain its momentum with a strong finish to the regular season.

Vandy is 14-12 and 6-8 in SEC play. The Commodores don’t have many impressive wins, but they did beat LSU a couple of weeks ago. Alabama sits at 17-10 and 7-7 in SEC play, coming off Saturday’s loss to Kentucky.

The latest NCAA NET rankings have the Tide at No. 22. Vandy is ranked No. 78. Ken Pomeroy rates the Crimson Tide slightly higher. KenPOM has the Crimson Tide at No. 20 and the Commodores at No. 77.

The Crimson Tide has won its last two games against the Dores in Nashville. Prior to that, Alabama was 1-14 in Memorial Gymnasium, going back to the 1991 season. Overall the series between the schools favors the Dores with 58 wins to 52 for the Crimson Tide.

Few of the Crimson Tide players will know or care about the history between the two teams. Vandy coach, Jerry Stackhouse is certain to have told his team the Tide is very beatable in Nashville.

Though the Crimson Tide is the better team this season, it has lost as the better team, many times before in Nashville. The games are rarely one-sided, with single digits usually separating the winner from the loser.

Alabama vs. Vanderbilt Prediction

Earlier in the week, Nate Oats said any of his players not playing hard on defense would be benched. An immediate question came to mind. Coach, what took you so long?

Predicting how hard or how smart the Crimson Tide will play for 40 minutes is ‘fools-gold.’ Some Crimson Tide advantages are, in SEC play, Vandy is near the bottom of the league in free-throw shooting, rebounding, blocks and assists. They are one of the leagues’ best at shooting and defending threes.
