The defending SEC Basketball Tournament Champion, Alabama Crimson Tide finished the regular season at 9-9 in league play and is the SEC Tournament 6-seed.
Five SEC teams finished at 9-9. Once the tiebreakers were calculated, LSU gained the 5-seed. The other three tied teams were led by South Carolina as the 7-seed, then Texas A&M as the 8-seed and Florida as the 9-seed.
Many Alabama basketball fans are not feeling confident with the Tide dropping its last two regular-season games. Thankfully, since college basketball is a tournament sport, everything will start over twice for the Tide. The SEC Tournament provides a fresh start, followed by another fresh start in the NCAA Tournament.
- The 1-seed Auburn Tigers go to Tampa with a 15-3 league record and 27-4 overall. Auburn has shown some weaknesses in recent weeks, losing two of its last five games to Florida and Tennessee.
- Tennessee is the 2-seed at 14-4 in league play and 23-7 overall. The Vols are playing well, having won nine of their last 10 games, including wins over Kentucky, Auburn and Arkansas.
- Kentucky is the 3-seed, also at 14-4 in league play and 25-6 overall. The Cats have won 10 of their last 12 games, losing only to Auburn and Tennessee.
- The 4-seed is the Arkansas Razorbacks, at 13-5 in league play, and24-7 overall. The Hogs have just two losses since Jan. 8, to Alabama and Tennessee.
- The 5-seed, LSU are 9-9 in the league has struggled in the second half of the season. The Bengal Tigers are 6-9 since Jan. 12 and have lost three of their last five games.
- Alabama Basketball has the 6-seed and as Tide fans know too well, are 5-5 since beating Baylor
- In the 7-seed, South Carolina improved late with a 5-2 finish in conference play. The Gamecocks are 18-12 overall.
- Texas A&M is the 8-seed at 20-11 on the season.
- The 9-seed went to the Florida Gators at 19-12 on the season.
- Mississippi State faded at the end to finish 17-14 overall and become the 10-seed.
The bottom four seeds will open the SEC Tournament Wednesday night. 12-seed Missouri will play 13-seed Ole Miss. 11-seed Vanderbilt will face 14-seed Georgia.
Alabama Basketball SEC Tournament Path
The Crimson Tide will take on either Vandy or Georgia on Thursday. A Thursday win will advance the Crimson Tide to a Friday game against Kentucky. Beat Kentucky and the Tide would take on the Tennessee Vols in a Saturday semi-final.
The Friday game between the Tide and the Cats would be a matchup of the two winningest SEC Tournament Champion teams. The Cats have a slight lead over the Tide in those championships.
