Alabama football’s Christian Harris is showing his athleticism
Christian Harris has elite physical traits, and that was part of why he was so successful during his time with Alabama football. He was a physical linebacker who could drop back in coverage as well. He checks many of the boxes that NFL teams are looking for, and he took another step forward during the NFL Combine.
Harris posted a 4.44 in the 40-yard dash. This was the second-fastest among linebackers for the day, and it was faster than many running backs and receivers. He also produced the second-best broad jump for linebackers and a solid vertical jump.
These numbers were better than first-round prospects at running back. Devin Lloyd is seen as a first-round lock at the position, but Harris tested better in two of the three categories. Nakobe Dean was measured, but he did not do athletic testing.
Behind them, Harris could become LB3. There is a debate between other SEC linebackers, but Harris has a strong resume. He’s a three-year starter for Alabama football, which is rare for an inside linebacker. He has a background in the secondary, so he knows how to play the ball and win in coverage. The NFL Combine proved that he is exceptionally athletic, so you have plenty of upside with him.
Before the Combine, Harris’s future was uncertain. After all, we saw Dylan Moses go undrafted last year after a solid Alabama football career. However, assuming we don’t hear of any medical red flags, we should see Harris go in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. It wouldn’t be surprising if he is off the board in the top 50 picks.
Harris will have another chance to prove himself at Alabama’s Pro Day. He’ll also have Nick Saban speaking his praises, which goes a long way in NFL circles. With so much trending up, signs point to Harris being off the board early.
