Alabama Football: Bryce Young enters the Transfer Portal
By Dakota Cox
Bryce Young decided he was tired of all the losing at Alabama and wants to take his talents where he’ll be more appreciated.
Bryce Young has heard a lot since the loss to Georgia in the national championship game, and it seems like he’s just sick and tired of the losing streak and the horrible culture in Tuscaloosa. Seriously, how much can a guy take? 0-1 in Nattys? It’s just horrible.
Against the better judgment and in a stunning turn of events, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is reportedly leaving Alabama football during spring practices. Bryce Young shocked the college football world when he announced that he officially entered the transfer portal and plans to play one more year with a new team.
Personally, I think that this move will shock Alabama football fans, but Young detailed his reasoning in a statement. It is not that he believes that he has a better opportunity elsewhere. In fact, he is looking to play for a worse team in 2022.
Right after thanking Saban and the Alabama football team, he reportedly said (via the log in a replica of Rick Sanchez’s portal gun) that he’d played in two straight national championships, won a ring. won the Heisman. and did what he came to do.
Later in his rant, Young added that he knows the stigma of being an Alabama football quarterback.
He said something about being on the best team in the world, no one thinks that you’re as good as you really are. I saw this with Mac last year….blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda. Saying Jones was the best quarterback in college football, but he was the fifth quarterback drafted. Everyone thought that he couldn’t win without the talent around him, and it cost him millions of dollars.
Bryce seems to think he can win with even garbage talent around him. Hey, why not? Georgia won with talent and a former walk-on, fifth-string quarterback.
Over the course of the next NFL season, we’ll have a better idea of who will be looking to draft Young. Right now, the teams that are expected to be near the top of the 2023 NFL Draft all count as “garbage.” Many teams will be looking to lose games for Bryce Young, and he won’t have many NFL teammates as talented as his current ones in Tuscaloosa.
Over the next few days, Young will tour a short list of schools. While Young did not name a school in his announcement, he implied heavily that he wants to play for a garbage offense to prove himself. This may mean that he is destined to head to Auburn to play under Bryan Harsin. If not, he could look to bring Texas back under Steve Sarkisian. Either way, Young would get a chance to play Alabama football in 2022.
Let’s expect an interesting spring game for the Tide without Young. Milroe is currently QB2, but others are on the depth chart looking to surpass him.
So, if Young can win without Saban and the Tide, he deserves to be the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. We’ll see if he can April Fool us all with another national title.
For those of you whose faces are turning crimson with anger right now, we GOTCHA! We love Bryce, and he loves Alabama. Roll Tide Roll!!
