Alabama football loses 4-star safety to Transfer Portal

Alabama football loses another defender
The Transfer Portal is a zero-sum game when you look at scholarships. For every player that Alabama football adds, one has to leave. Alabama added plenty of talent this offseason, but they’ve also lost some players to the Transfer Portal.
The most recent departure for the Crimson Tide is Kaine Williams, a former 4-star safety from Louisiana. Williams announced his decision to transfer on Twitter, but he did not release a shortlist of teams or a timeline for him to decide where he will transfer.
Williams was on Alabama football’s roster for two seasons, but he has yet to see the field. Because of this, he has four years of eligibility at his disposal. He can join any team without sitting out, so he has a chance to immediately contribute at a new school.
Alabama football has lost plenty of players to the Transfer Portal this offseason. It started with players like Drew Sanders, Jahleel Billingsley and Paul Tyson. More recently, Alabama lost Agiye Hall before immediately replacing him with the fastest player in college football.
Alabama football still needs to lose a few scholarship players to meet the necessary requirements by the fall. Now that spring practices are over and the school semester is coming to a close, players will be announcing their decisions. This likely isn’t the last player to leave, and the Tide still might add some talent to the roster.
While Williams has potential, he was not going to crack the starting lineup with Battle, Hellams, Branch and Moore returning this season. Since Alabama is over the scholarship limit and he was not going to see the field, this is a situation where it is best for all parties to move on. Williams will contribute when he finds a new team, and Alabama football will remain solid at the safety position.
