The opening night of the 2022 NFL Draft went pretty much as expected for Alabama Football. Evan Neal was chosen early at No. 7 by the New York Giants. Not far behind came Jameson Williams at No. 12 to the Detroit Lions.

With Thursday night’s two first-round picks, the Alabama Crimson Tide matched an NFL Draft record. The longest streak of NFL Draft years with a first-round selection was held by the Miami Hurricanes from 1995 to 2008. The Crimson Tide matched the Canes Thursday night and will sprint past them in next year’s Draft.

Trevor Matich paid Jameson quite a compliment, agreeing with Nick Saban’s take on the former Crimson Tide wide receiver,

"Coach Saban paid him a high compliment, said he has a lot of dog in him. Williams will fight you for the ball, fight you blocking, fight you on special teams. Reminds of mentality of Terry McLaurin."

Alabama Football NFL Draft Second Round Selections

Note: This post will be updated throughout the evening as each selection of a former Crimson Tide player is made.

  • Alabama wide receiver John Metchie III was selected by the Houston Texans with the No. 44 pick in the second round. At one time, Metchie had a shot at being a first-round selection, but that was before his season-ending injury. Metchie has a complete package of wide receiver skills. He is an excellent route-runner and can play either inside or outside. He has dependable pass-catching skills and, as at least one 2021 Alabama football opponent can attest, Metchie has toughness. He will become a mainstay in the Texans’ offense once he is healthy.
  • Shortly after John Metchie was drafted, the Washington Commanders selected Phidarian Mathis with the No. 47 pick. Another former Crimson Tide defender joins Washington.

Other Friday night possibilities include Christian Harris, Jaylin Armour-Davis and with an outside chance Brian Robinson Jr.

Check-in with Bama Hammer throughout the evening as we update this post with each former Alabama Crimson Tide selection.
