Alabama Football: Only six teams can win ’22 National Championship

2015 CFB Playoff (3 Real Contenders)

  • Playoff teams were 1) Clemson, 2) Alabama, 3) Michigan State and 4) Oklahoma.
  • Iowa (12-1), Stanford (11-2) and Ohio State (11-1) had claims they should have been in the Playoff field.
  • In the Playoff semi-finals, Clemson easily beat Oklahoma, 37-17. Alabama completely out-classed Michigan State 38-0.
  • In the non-Playoff bowl games, Stanford beat Iowa to finish 12-2 and Ohio State beat Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, to finish 12-1.
  • The Selection Committee may have picked the wrong four teams, but realistically, only Alabama, Clemson and probably Ohio State were National Championship contenders.
  • Alabama beat Clemson 45-40 to become the 2015 National Champion.

2016 Playoff (2 Real Contenders)

  • The four Playoff teams were 1) Alabama, 2) Clemson, 3) Ohio State and 4) Washington.
  • Other possible contenders not making the field were 5) Penn State, 6) Michigan and 7) Oklahoma. All three were two-loss teams.
  • In the semi-finals, Alabama beat Washington 24-7 and Clemson beat Ohio State 31-0.
  • Penn State and Michigan lost their bowl games.
  • Given the results of the Playoff games and the bowl games, 2016 had only two teams that were National Champion contenders.
  • Clemson beat Alabama 35-31 for the Championship.

2017 Playoff (Five or Six Real Contenders)

  • Playoff teams were 1) Clemson, 2) Oklahoma, 3) Georgia and 4) Alabama.
  • The only other contender for a Playoff spot was one-loss Wisconsin.
  • Alabama beat Clemson in one semi-final and Georgia outlasted Oklahoma in the other one. Alabam won the National Championship game.
  • At most, the 2017 National Championship contenders were the four Playoff teams, plus Wisconsin and maybe Ohio State. For the first time, perhaps six teams deserved to be in a Playoff.

2018 Playoff (Three or Four Contenders)

  • Playoff teams were 1) Alabama, 2) Clemson, 3) Notre  Dame and 4) Oklahoma.
  • At No. 6 in the Playoff rankings and with only one loss, Ohio State was a National Championship contender. Others claiming to be contenders, were two-loss teams, Georgia and Michigan.
  • Alabama beat Oklahoma in one semi-final. Clemson embarrassed Notre Dame in the other one.
  • The real contenders were Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma and probably Ohio State.
  • Clemson handled the Crimson Tide with ease to become the Champion.
