Late Monday afternoon, as was expected, 4-Star, defensive lineman, Hunter Osborne announced a commitment to the Alabama football, 2023 class. Osborne chose the Crimson Tide over Clemson, Texas and Tennessee.

Osborne is a longtime Alabama football fan. He credited Crimson Tide assistant, Freddie Roach as being a major reason for his decision. But when he talked about Nick Saban, as reported by Hank South of 247Sports, Osborne spoke in almost reverential terms.

"It doesn’t feel real if I’m being honest with you. It hasn’t kicked in that I’m going to be playing for Coach. He’s the GOAT. Getting the opportunity to play for him and in front of all my family, everybody, it means a lot to me.Ultimately it came down to the decision where I want to get developed. I want to play with the best of the best… I want to work to be one of the best."

Hunter Osborne is the first defensive lineman, verbal commit in the Tide’s 2023 class. He pledged to be the program’s best recruiter going forward, pulling in other top talents for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Osborne is the No. 130 player in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 18 defensive lineman in the 2023 class. Based on the On3 Consensus, Osborne is the No. 113 player and the No. 12 defensive lineman.

Alabama Football Team Ranking

With the addition of Osborne, the Crimson Tide now has 17, 2023 verbal commits. Alabama is ranked the No. 1 class in the On3 Consensus Team Rankings and the No. 2 class in the 247Sports Composite.

The next scheduled announcement for a Crimson Tide target is Aug. 11 when 4-Star, offensive lineman, Miles McVay makes his commitment public. Almost every recruiting expert has McVay joining the Crimson Tide.

Before then, it is possible three players, currently committed to other programs, will flip to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. They are 4-Star, tight end, Ty Lockwood, a Ohio State commit; 4-Star, Sunterine Perkins (Ole Miss commit) and 5-Star, Keon Keeley (Notre Dame commit).

For fun, here is a quick review of where the Auburn Tigers stand in the Team Rankings. On3 has the Tigers as the No. 53 class, last in the SEC, and 247Sports has the Aubies at No. 69, and again last among SEC teams.

How bleak are the prospects for Auburn? The Tigers have been looking to 4-Star, QB prospect, Brock Glenn to spark new enthusiasm in the program. Glenn recently committed to Ohio State. For the Aubies, it hurts even more because Glenn was named after Auburn – Auburn Brock Glenn.
