This is Fall Camp week for Alabama Football. The first session is Thursday, Aug. 4. After weeks of optimism that media viewing periods would resume, the latest word is they will not. So prepare for another season of what Nick Saban wants us to know and what can be added by Alabama football insiders.

As Crimson Tide fans know there is no fall camp depth chart. Nick Saban will provide what he calls an organizational chart. The early chart will provide strong clues as to the opening season starters.

Little gets settled in most position groups until after the two fall camp scrimmages. Until then, Alabama football fans can think of the Tide’s depth chart as having close to 15 lock and near-lock starters. That count does not include any of the transfer players likely to win starting roles.

The Crimson Tide Offensive Depth Chart includes 13 starter positions, allowing for both two tight end and four wide receiver options. Thirteen positions were used for the Crimson Tide defense to allow for four linebackers and six defensive backs. As we discussed several weeks ago the Tide’s deep talent at defensive back could lead to the occasional use of a quarter package or seven defensive backs.

With a new offensive line coach in Eric Wolford, the two-deep for that position group is unsettled. There are clear leaders for the first-unit tackle and guard slots, but the second-unit positions are unclear.

A separate special teams depth chart is not included. Will Reichard is the placekicker for kickoffs, field goals and extra points. James Burnip is expected to again be the Tide’s starting punter. There are many good options for kick and punt returners, with Jojo Earle and Jase McClellan expected to have key roles.
