Alabama Football Fall Camp Questions: Who emerges at receiver?
Alabama Football: A Pair of Impact Transfers?
Alabama football welcomes in two transfer wide receivers. Both Georgia transfer Jermaine Burton and Louisville transfer Tyler Harrell will be juniors in the upcoming season after productive stops at their previous schools.
Coach Saban rarely takes transfers that he doesn’t expect to step right in and contribute at a high level. The fact that he took two wide receivers out of the portal may mean he is not fully confident in the development of some of the aforementioned returnees.
Burton comes to Tuscaloosa with 53 career receptions for 901 yards and 8 touchdowns, and seems destined to immediately become one of Bryce Young’s top targets.
Deep threat Tyler Harrell could be poised to take the starting job in the slot, assuming he can hold off Earle and Leary. Harrell can be highly explosive; despite making only 20 career catches thus far, he has stretched the field for 559 yards and 6 touchdowns.
While I hesitate to compare him to Jameson Williams, he generated similar per catch production on a smaller scale. At his ceiling, Harrell appears to be the most obvious candidate to replace Williams’ invaluable speed and threat of verticality.
