At some point, late in the 2022 Alabama football season, Bryce Young will establish a new career passing yards record for the Crimson Tide. Young is currently No. 9 on the Alabama Crimson Tide all-time list. That is impressive for being a one-season starter and having played in just 22 games.

All but two of the Alabama football quarterbacks with more career passing yards than Bryce were in Tuscaloosa for four or five seasons. There is little chance Bryce Young will play more than three college seasons before moving to the NFL.

The only way Bryce does not make it to No. 1 in the Alabama Football Record Book would be because of injury. Otherwise, Tide opponents, or even failings by his offensive line or receivers, will not block him from reaching No. 1.

Going into the 2022 season, Bryce Young has passed for 5,028 yards. All but 156 of those yards were produced in the 2021 season. Amassing 4,872 yards last season, Young’s average per game was 324.8 yards. Even if his average drops to 308 yards in the 2022 season AND if the Crimson Tide plays in only 13 games, Young will still finish No. 1 at 9,032 yards.

How Bryce Young sets the Alabama Football Record

  • The first three games of the season are unlikely to produce big numbers for Bryce. The Tide’s offensive line and receivers will need time to build confidence and cohesion. There will be no reason for Bill O’Brien to rely heavily on the passing game against Utah State and Louisiana Monroe. Young will not play the fourth quarter in either of those games. Even with an estimated 325 yards against Texas, Bryce’s 2022 passing yards total after three games will be around 5,800 yards. That total will push Young to No. 6 on the Tide’s all-time list by moving past Jalen Hurts (5,626 yards), Jay Barker (5,689 yards) and Greg McElroy (5,691 yards).
  • Alabama will play Vanderbilt in game four and Young’s output should be close to games one and three totaling around 225 yards. That will be enough to move Young past Andrew Zow (5,983 yards) into No. 5 all-time.
  • Alabama plays Arkansas in game five and last season, Young passed for 559 yards against the Hogs. A more modest 375 yards this season would put Bryce around 6,400 yards and up to No. 4 on the all-time list surpassing Brodie Croyle’s total of 6,382 yards.
  • Estimating 325 yards in each of the Tide’s remaining SEC, regular season games, and a dialed-down 225 yards against Austin Peay, Young will be at 8,578 yards at the end of the regular season. On that pace, Young would move past Tua Tagovailoa (7,442 yards) and into No. 3 in the LSU game. A week later, against Ole Miss, Bryce should move to No. 2, jumping over John Parker Wilson’s 7,924 yards.
  • It is possible Bryce could catch A.J. McCarron in an SEC Championship game. With a Game 13 being so important, the 441 yards he produced last season, might be replicated. That exact number would tie Young with A.J. at 9,019 yards.
  • If Bryce comes up short in Atlanta, there will be more opportunities with Alabama Football in the CFB Playoff.

A quick response to any nay-sayers about Bryce reaching the Crimson Tide milestone. Minus an injury causing multiple missed games, he is a lock.
