On Tuesday, the Coaches Pre-Season All-SEC teams were announced. As expected by Alabama Crimson Tide fans, Alabama Football dominated the selections.

The coaches made 93 player selections among a First, Second and Third team. With four players chosen for multiple positions, the total number of players selected was 89. The SEC West teams had 50 of the 89 players, to just 39 for the SEC East teams.

Alabama Football almost doubled the player number of the second highest team. Nineteen Crimson Tide players were named, followed by 10 players from the Georgia Bulldogs.

A Few Surprises for Alabama Football

As every Alabama fan expected, Bryce Young was the First Team Quarterback. The Crimson Tide had three players selected and possibly a fourth who may not be first-game starters. This is not to suggest any of them were undeserving.

A Second Team tie at Quarterback was also interesting with votes being equally split between Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker and Georgia’s Stetson Bennett.

Three of the SEC West teams had just four players chosen. After Alabama in the SEC West was Texas A&M with eight players selected; Ole Miss with six players and Auburn with five. Mississippi State had the least impressive representation among SEC West teams with four, Third Team players. Other SEC West teams with four players chosen were LSU and Arkansas.

The Alabama Crimson Tide had six First Team players selected: Bryce Young; Will Anderson Jr.; Emil Ekiyor; Henry To’o To’o; Jordan Battle and El Ricks. Alabama Football had Jahmyr Gibbs, Jermaine Burton, Cameron Latu, Dallas Turner, Malachi Moore, and Will Reichard on the Second Team. Gibbs was selected as both a running back and an all-purpose player. On the  Third Team, the Tide had Javion Cohen, Tyler Steen, D.J. Dale, Justin Eboigbe, Brian Branch, Kool-Aid McKinstry and Jojo Earle.

In the SEC East, following Georgia’s 10 players selected was Tennessee with eight Volunteers selected and the Kentucky Wildcats with six players chosen. Next in the East came the Florida Gators and the South Carolina Gamecocks with five players each. Missouri had four Tigers chosen. The Vanderbilt Commodores has just one player selected.

The preseason All-SEC selections are great as an introduction to the season. Plus, they are strong motivation for players not chosen.
