The Alabama Football fall camp has brought surprises and injuries, along with some unanswered questions. Nick Saban’s first depth chart reveal will provide some answers. Until then, mull over this final Depth Chart prediction for the 2022 season.

Most of what follows is a two-deep look at the Crimson Tide offense and defense. In a couple of position groups, the second units are broadened to include players expected to be involved in situation and formation rotations.

Also, this prediction is for a week one depth chart. Injured players, not expected to participate against Utah State are not included. Even if this prediction is 100% accurate (not likely), it is only a snapshot. Alabama football has four games in September and through that period of the season, players not in first units will have a chance to move up.

Formation plays such an important part in who plays for the Crimson Tide defense. In this prediction, the Tide’s Dime defense, with six defensive backs, three linebackers and two defensive linemen is the focus. Also considered is nickel defenses with one less defensive back and three defensive linemen and the nickel with two defensive linemen and four linebackers.

Alabama Football Defense

Note: Starters in Bold

Defensive Line

Interior D-Line – D.J. Dale and Tim Smith; added in rotation, Jaheim Oatis and Damon Payne

Defensive Ends – Byron Young and Justin Eboigbe; in the rotation, Jamil Burroughs and Jah Marien Latham

Both Young and Burroughs can slide inside if needed. Oatis, at least early in the season, may be restricted to short-yardage situations. If he quickly shows he can effectively collapse a pocket, he will play more. Payne could be the surprise in the group, based on what Alabama football insiders have said about his fall camp performance.
