TE Cameron Latu

The former linebacker turner tight end is a preseason All-American and one of the oldest players on a team full of young guns.

Though Latu was noticeably absent from the first depth chart of the season, I think he has a big year in him nonetheless. According to Saban, Robbie Ouzts will start at TE for the opener with Latu missing most of summer camp with an undisclosed injury, believed to be to his knee.

Latu was cleared to return to full practice yesterday, but he is listed as “day-to-day.”

The 6’5″, 250-pound tight end might have only had 26 catches last season, but 8 of those went for touchdowns. He’s a red zone threat and a great run-blocker when needed. Much like Burton, Latu won’t blow you away with his flashy plays, but he gets open and adds a much-needed wrinkle to the passing game.

Matching up a former linebacker with a linebacker sure helps!
