Takeaway No. 3 – Alabama is loaded at wide receiver

Much fall camp buzz was about true freshman wide receiver, Kobe Prentice. Prentice showed why Saturday night with five receptions in six targets. Traeshon Holden had five catches in seven targets and two touchdowns. Jermaine Burton caught five passes with two touchdowns.

Eleven different Crimson Tide players caught 27 passes. In addition to the often open wideouts, the Tide running backs made five catches. Tight end, Miles Kitselman added two receptions.

Against better teams, getting open will not be so easy, but the Crimson Tide has almost everything it needs at wideout. If more speed is needed, Tyler Harrell, at some point, is expected to provide it. He was in a walking boot Saturday night.

Takeaway No. 4 – No need to worry about the secondary

Based on how well it worked against Utah State, it is not inconceivable Saban could rotate four guys at cornerback. He probably will not, but Kool-Aid, Terrion Arnold, Eli Ricks and Khyree Jackson all performed well Saturday night.

Jackson might have had the most impressive play, running over a blocker and tackling another player in one smooth, but powerful move. Brian Branch and Malachi Moore also looked sharp in pass coverage.

There are far bigger challenges ahead for the Tide corners. Other passing attacks will be harder to defend, but Alabama has too much talent in the secondary to be overwhelmed by any opposing offense.
