Auburn Tigers quarterback Robby Ashford

Looking carefully at the week one stats, an argument can be made that three quarterbacks deserve being No. 1. They are Bryce Young, Stetson Bennett and Anthony Richardson. Bennett and Richardson faced tougher opposition. On the flip side of that is Bryce Young set out more than a quarter of the Utah State game.

Alabama football fans will not disagree with my decision to give the nod to the 2021 Heisman Award winner.

SEC Football Week One Quarterback Power Ranking

  1. Bryce Young – Alabama Crimson Tide
  2. Stetson Bennett – Georgia Bulldogs
  3. Anthony Richardson – Florida Gators
  4. Will Rogers – Mississippi State Bulldogs
  5. KJ Jefferson – Arkansas Razorbacks
  6. Hendon Hooker – Tennessee Vols
  7. Mike Wright – Vanderbilt Commodores
  8. Jayden Daniels – LSU Bengal Tigers
  9. Haynes King – Texas A&M Aggies
  10. Will Levis – Kentucky Wildcats
  11. Jaxson Dart – Ole Miss Rebels
  12. Brady Cook – Missouri Tigers
  13. Spencer Rattler – South Carolina Gamecocks
  14. TJ Finley – Auburn Tigers

With only nine completions and two interceptions, TJ Finley was outshined by Auburn’s backup. Robby Ashford. Bryan Harsin may have started a quarterback controversy after the game by saying he will stick with Finley as his starter.

All the stats in this post were retrieved from ESPN. Take a look at how ESPN ranks the passing stats of the SEC QBs.  Based on games through Sept. 3, Bryce Young is ranked No. 10.

Check back in the coming weeks for updated rankings. Many changes will occur as the data sample grows.
