Alabama Football: Nine guys who must deliver for Texas
By Ronald Evans
When Alabama football fans talk about the most dangerous players for the Texas Longhorns, three players are always mentioned. They are two proven offensive threats in running back, Bijan Robinson and wide receiver, Xavier Worthy. Both are a challenge for any defense. The third is heralded, but unproven quarterback, Quinn Ewers.
No matter how well the trio plays on Saturday, they will need help to have a chance against the Crimson Tide. Listed below are nine other Texas players who must play well for the Longhorns.
Alabama Football and Nine Texas Players
- Alabama will focus on Bijan Robinson, but cannot let up when his fellow running back, Roschon Johnson is in the game. Johnson is a former quarterback, who runs with a burst and power and is a receiving threat. He produced 652 yards last season. Johnson was injured during fall camp but is believed to be at full speed.
- Wide receiver, Jordan Whittington could be Ewers’ favorite receiving target in the game. With the Alabama defense concentrating on Worthy and tight end, Ja’Tavion Sanders, Whittington may be the most often, open receiver for the Longhorns. Unlike Worthy, who is a slim 165 pounds, Whittington has good size at 6’1″, 205 lbs.
- Defensive back, D’Shawn Jamison is a speedy returner capable of producing points for Texas. Jamison also had a pick-six against Louisiana-Monroe.
- Texas will be in big trouble if it does not create pressure off the edges. The Longhorns have two players who must pressure Bryce Young or the Texas defense will have no chance. One is the leading tackler for Texas, De’Marvion Overshown. On the other edge for Texas is outside linebacker Barryn Sorrell. Texas is counting on the duo being too much for the Crimson Tide tackles.
