Alabama Football: Studs and Duds in victory over Longhorns
By Ronald Moody
Alabama Football Duds
Way too many Penalties
Fifteen penalties.
The most penalties ever under Saban and one short of the school record set in 2002. Before halftime, the yellow flag was tossed on the field eleven times against Alabama. Superstar Will Anderson jumped offsides three times, which is highly uncharacteristic.
The Texas offense aggressively attacked the corners forcing several pass interference calls. Everyone appeared out of sorts in the first half. Chalk it up to the first actual road game and the Texas fans.
Running game
Omit Jase McClellan’s electrifying 81-yard second-quarter touchdown, and the Tide finished with only 80 carries on 24 carries. McClellan ended the game as the leading rusher with 97 yards.
Young finished as the second leading rusher with 38 yards. Keep in mind that Young led Alabama in rushing last game. Offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien needs to figure out a way to get the running game going before SEC play commences.
Alabama football returns to Tuscaloosa to face the University of Louisiana Monroe next Saturday. Expect the Crimson Tide to play better.
