Alabama Football: Bama lands defensive lineman Jordan Renaud
The top-ranked 2023 recruiting class in the nation got even better when Alabama football received a commitment from Jordan Renaud on Monday afternoon. Renaud is a 4-star defensive lineman from the state of Texas, bolstering one of the thinner position groups in the Tide’s 2023 class.

Jordan Renaud joins fellow 4-stars Hunter Osborne and Edric Hill to become Alabama’s third defensive line commitment in this cycle. The highest rated of the three, Renaud is ranked 69th nationally and considered the no. 7 defensive lineman in the country.
Alabama football looks to be pursuing smaller, quicker defensive linemen in this class, and Renaud continues that trend. While they will gain mass and size once they get to campus, all three defensive line commits are under 300 pounds.
Alabama always takes defensive linemen in this weight range to play 5-tech defensive end, but they have also taken massive linemen such as Jaheim Oatis, Tim Keenan, Tim Smith, and Jamil Burroughs in the past few recruiting cycles. The 2023 class lacks that sheer size at the current moment, but Renaud leads a group that is extremely explosive and difficult to block.
Alabama Football 2023 defensive overview
The Alabama defense should be good for years to come, and this 2023 class will play a big part. The trio of defensive line commitments are joined by 4-star edge rusher Yhonzae Pierre and 4-star JUCO linebacker Justin Jefferson.
The Tide is still pursuing a ton of front-seven talent, most notably 5-star defensive lineman James Smith and 5-star edge rushers Keon Keeley and Qua Russaw. There are still a lot of question marks as to how the front-seven will play out, but the class is already very solid with several elite prospects still on the board.
Regardless, this group will supplement one of the best defensive back classes ever assembled. Alabama football has verbal commitments from 5-stars Caleb Downs, Jahlil Hurley, and Tony Mitchell, as well as 3-star Brayson Hubbard. The Tide is also still in play for 5-star Cormani McClain, whose hypothetical commitment would give Alabama the four best defensive backs in the country.
Alabama is rounding out an extremely impressive 2023 class, and Jordan Renaud is a huge piece. The Crimson Tide will graduate all three starting defensive linemen after this season, and playing time will be up for grabs.
It will be interesting to see how Nick Saban, Pete Golding, and company finish this 2023 defensive line haul.
