It is homecoming week at the Capstone and Alabama football fans are ready to cast aside the Tennessee loss.

This week the Crimson Tide is a big favorite. The Tide was always going to be the favorite against the Bulldogs, but after last Saturday’s Crimson Tide disappointment, no sound prediction can give Mississippi State a chance.

Despite a road loss to Kentucky, Mississippi State is still ranked at No. 24 in both the AP and Coaches polls. The Bulldogs are 5-2, with their second loss, also having come on the SEC road, against LSU.

Alabama Football vs. Mississippi State Spread Week Eight

FanDuel has the Crimson Tide as an early week, 20.5-point favorite. The over/under is set at 60.5 points. The Moneyline is Alabama -1700 and Mississippi State +890.

Alabama Football vs. Mississippi State Game Prediction

The Saturday game will be interesting. Not because it will be close, but to see how the Crimson Tide defense responds after giving up 52 points to Tennessee. Will there be new starters in the Crimson Tide secondary? In practices this week, some Crimson Tide players will have to re-earn their starting roles.

Every college football season since Mike Leach’s quarterbacks started throwing footballs all over the yard in Lubbock, his passing attack has wowed pundits. Leach’s QBs pass for mega-yards and in some seasons strong winning performance follows.

It has been much the same in his two-plus seasons in Starkville. Bulldogs’ QB, Will Rogers leads the SEC at over 330 passing yards per game. Leach tries to get some balance running the ball. That has failed him in the two SEC road losses. In home SEC games the Bulldogs have averaged 153 rushing yards. On the SEC road, the output drops to 48.5 yards.

Mississippi State is fifth in the SEC in scoring at 35.4 points per game, but they are roughly three touchdowns better at home than on the road.

The statistical oddity is not expected to change in Tuscaloosa.

  • Tennessee has a no-contest game against Tennessee-Martin

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change

After Saturday night, in three games, a Mike Leach-coached Mississippi State team will have scored one touchdown on the Crimson Tide.
