Alabama Crimson Tide: What a week to be a Bama fan
By Ronald Evans
Several days ago Bama Hammer predicted it was going to be a great week to be an Alabama Crimson Tide fan. What transpired exceeded expectations. It was an outstanding week! Considering no national championships were won during the week, it might have been the most spectacular Alabama Crimson Tide non-national championship week in school history.
For the record, there were a couple of small blemishes. On Monday, Women’s Basketball dropped a game to No. 17, Utah. On Friday, Men’s Basketball lost to UConn and Volleyball lost to Tennessee.
The rest of the week made up for the blips.
On Wednesday, Women’s Basketball beat Wake Forest, 61-58 in the Pink Flamingo Championships. Also on Wednesday, Volleyball defeated the Tennessee Vols, 3-1.
A late Thanksgiving night gave Men’s Basketball a quality, potential NCAA Tournament seed-boosting win, 81-70 win over Michigan State in the Phil Knight Invitational.
More Alabama Crimson Tide Celebrations
On Friday night Alabama Soccer went to extra time in beating the Duke Blue Devils. The 3-2 win in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight gave the Crimson Tide its first-ever spot in the NCAA College Cup Final Four.

Alabama Football took care of business Saturday afternoon, blowing by the Auburn Tigers for a 49-27, Iron Bowl win. While the Crimson Tide was a heavy favorite over the lucky-to-be five-win, Auburn team, every Iron Bowl win is a great one.
Men’s Basketball ended the week with an even more impressive win in the Phil Knight Invitational. It took the Crimson Tide four overtimes to do it, but Alabama took down North Carolina 103-101. Although Tar Heels lost earlier in the tournament, UNC went into the event ranked No. 1 in Division One basketball.
More on the Crimson Tide win over North Carolina
The win was only the fourth for Alabama Basketball over a No. 1 ranked team. The last one happened in the 2004 NCAA Tournament when a Mark Gottfried- coached Alabama upset No. 1 ranked Stanford in the Big Dance second round. North Carolina, now 5-2 on the season was the NCAA Tournament runner-up last season, losing to Kansas in the National Championship game.
Alabama Crimson Tide fans had much to be thankful for during Thanksgiving week. Even seeing Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jr. walk off the Bryant-Denny field for likely the last time should not dampen joy. Rather than dwelling on what will not be again, celebrating what was, from two exceptional young men is in order.
What was the biggest win Crimson Tide win of the week? Different answers can be correct, but I’ll choose Alabama Soccer advancing to the College Cup.
