Alabama Football: 5-Star Countdown to Early Signing Period
By Ronald Evans
Alabama Football, already with the No. 1 class of verbal commits, could slam dunk the Early Signing Period.
Building a top class goes far beyond signing 5-Star recruits. Landing a strong group of 4-Stars and some top 3-Stars is also important. While it is possible to land a strong class with no 5-Star signees, having some elite 5-Star signees is far more than cake icing.
At the end of the soon-to-begin 2023 Early Signing Period, the Alabama Football, 2023 class could include eight 5-Star signees. That suggestion is not a big stretch.
Alabama already has three 5-Star commits in safety Caleb Downs, edge, Keon Keeley and running back, Justice Haynes.
Check out how the trio of Alabama Football verbal commits is ranked in the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Consensus.
- Caleb Downs – No. 6 player overall in both rankings and the No. 1 ranked safety in both rankings
- Keon Keeley – No. 10 player overall (247) and No. 11 player overall (On3); No. 1 ranked edge in both rankings
- Justice Haynes – No. 25 player overall (247) and No. 31 player overall (On3); No. 3 ranked running back (247) and No. 2 running back (On3)
Alabama Football and more 5-Stars
The Alabama Crimson Tide has a legitimate chance to land four more 5-Stars this week. Based on predictions from numerous recruiting experts, the Crimson Tide has a good chance (a few say very good) to land three of those 5-Stars.
Despite a late push by the Auburn Tigers, 5-Star, defensive lineman, James Smith is expected to pick the Crimson Tide. Smith is ranked as high as the No. 14 player overall and both rating services have Smith as the No. 2 defensive lineman in the 2023 class.
Smith’s high school teammate, linebacker, Qua Russaw had been predicted as slightly less likely to sign with Alabama. Now, Russaw not signing with the Crimson Tide would be a big surprise. Russaw is rated as high as the No. 19 player in the 2023 class. He is ranked as the No. 2 linebacker (On3) and the No. 3 edge (247).
After a weekend official visit to Tuscaloosa, Iowa commit, offensive lineman, Kadyn Proctor is widely expected to flip to the Crimson Tide. Proctor is rated as the No. 12 player overall and the No. 2 offensive tackle by both 247 and On3.
Nick Saban could land one more 5-Star. He is cornerback, Desmond Ricks. Alabama and LSU are the major contenders and both sides appear optimistic. Ricks is ranked as high as the No. 20 player overall and the No. 2 rated cornerback by the two rating services.
