Can Alabama Football land Cormani McClain?
Nick Saban and his staff have put together a stacked 2023 recruiting class for Alabama Football. The class consists of 28 highly-touted players, including seven 5-stars.
Is it possible the Crimson Tide land an eighth 5-star recruit? Cornerback Cormani McClain is one of the best high school football players in the country, and he could still be on the table for Coach Saban and company. A Miami commit, McClain decided at the last minute not to sign in the early signing period. By not signing early, he gives Alabama two more months to sell him on the idea of playing in Tuscaloosa.
Cormani McClain is considered the second-best player in the nation, behind only Arch Manning. It is widely agreed upon that the Lakeland, Florida product is the best cornerback in high school football. At a rangy 6’2”, he is a natural at the position. McClain has only played corner for three years, but his athleticism and ball skills quickly vaulted him to the top of the rankings.
McClain remains committed to Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes, so he will be a difficult flip. Even if moves off his Miami commitment, Alabama would have to beat out Florida and Colorado for his services. It feels like a long shot for Alabama to land Cormani McClain, but the Crimson Tide didn’t appear likely to sign Desmond Ricks until very late in his recruitment.
If Coach Saban can pull off the improbable, McClain and Ricks would give Alabama football the top two cornerbacks in the country. Add in dynamic safety Caleb Downs, and Bama would be bringing in three 5-star defensive backs. By itself, this would likely be the best secondary class of all-time. Not to be outdone, 4-star defensive backs Jahlil Hurley, Tony Mitchell, and Bray Hubbard are all good enough to make an impact in year one on campus.
Regardless of what Cormani McClain does, Alabama football will comfortably finish with the best class in the 2023 cycle and one of the best classes in college football history. Adding McClain would just be another cherry on top.
To reiterate, it will be very tough to beat out his other suitors. Still, with two months to go, it would be unwise to count out the greatest recruiter of all time.
