Alabama Basketball is the cream of the SEC, having won seven straight games. The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas A&M Aggies are the only teams undefeated in SEC play.

So much attention is directed to how well the Crimson Tide is doing nationally, the goal of winning the SEC regular season is not often mentioned.

In its history, Alabama Basketball has 10 regular season championships, the most recent being the 2021 season. Ten is not an insignificant number, as only three SEC schools have more. LSU and Tennessee have 11 each and the Kentucky Wildcats have 49.

The Crimson Tide have won only two regular season championships since 1987, so another one in the 2022-23 season would be a major achievement.

Alabama Basketball Current SEC Standings

  • Alabama Crimson Tide 6-0 (16-2 overall)
  • Texas A&M Aggies 5-0 (13-5)
  • Tennessee Vols 5-1 (15-3)

  • Georgia Bulldogs 3-2 (13-5)

Short Notes on SEC Teams

Alabama Basketball is the highest-scoring team in the SEC. In conference play, the Crimson Tide is averaging 84.7 points per game. The Crimson Tide also leads the SEC in made threes percentage at 37.1%. Chico Carter of South Carolina leads the SEC from outside the arc at 48.6%. Brandon Miller is close behind at 46.2%.

Missouri in Columbia on Saturday could challenge the Crimson Tide. Alabama should win, but anyone who saw the officiating from Wednesday night, when the Tigers beat Arkansas, knows bad calls can decide a close game. Arkansas played nine guys and four of them fouled out. A critical call, needing a review was botched by the SEC. See the explanation below.

Missouri still deserves credit for coming back from 10 points down with five minutes to go. A win on Saturday would give the Crimson Tide another Quad 1 win for its resume.

Tennessee leads the SEC in opponent scoring per game at 57.3 points. In SEC games, Alabama is 5th in the SEC for the same stat at 63.7 average points allowed.

Along with Missouri and Tennessee, two Crimson Tide opponents will be tough on their home floor. One is not a surprise as the Auburn Tigers consistently play tough defense at home. The other team is somewhat of a surprise. The Texas A&M Aggies dropped to 6-5, after losing to Wofford on Dec. 20. Since then the Aggies have won seven straight.

If the SEC Coach of the Year was chosen now, Georgia’s Mike White would have to come in second to Nate Oats. Last season Georgia won six games, with only one win after Dec. 20. That win was over Alabama. White getting them to 13-5 so far this season is impressive.
