Alabama Crimson Tide News: Bama Hoops rolling & Coordinator searches
Alabama athletics has had yet another busy week. The Alabama Crimson Tide athletic department has recently announced an extension on its multimedia rights deal with Learfield. The extension will include a state-of-the-art NIL hub known as “The Advantage Center” that will serve all Alabama student-athletes.
This is a new era of collegiate athletics, and Alabama is making groundbreaking moves in the NIL space.
Alabama Crimson Tide: Hoops team wins again
The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team kept its win streak alive on Wednesday night with an ugly, narrow win over Mississippi State. Bama scored just 66 points in the game, and recorded its worst shooting splits since November, hitting on less than 37 percent of its shots from the field and less than 18 percent from the three-point line.
Still, the Tide showed enough grittiness and toughness to find a way to win the game, despite playing far below its capabilities. This win was a growth opportunity for an Alabama team that will have to win close games to stay alive throughout March and into April.
Alabama will play at Oklahoma this weekend before continuing its SEC schedule. The Tide have 10 regular season league games remaining before the SEC Tournament begins, and are widely considered to be on the no. 1 seed line at the current moment.
Alabama Crimson Tide: Football Updates
Alabama safety Jordan Battle has announced that he will not participate in the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl. Battle will remain in the 2023 NFL Draft, but is focusing on his health prior to the combine instead of participating in the Senior Bowl.
Even without Battle and kicker Will Reichard, who opted to return to Tuscaloosa, Alabama will be well-represented in Mobile. Tight end Cameron Latu, offensive linemen Tyler Steen and Emil Ekiyor Jr., defensive linemen DJ Dale and Byron Young, linebacker Henry To’o To’o, and safety DeMarcco Hellams will all still participate in the game.
The biggest questions currently surrounding the Alabama football program are the offensive and defensive coordinator situations. On both sides of the ball, coordinator searches are in progress. In what seems to be an update on the offensive side of the ball, former Florida coach Dan Mullen and for Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury don’t appear to be options.
Both Mullen and Kingsbury were among the names being discussed, even before Bill O’Brien was officially out the door. In the past week, Mullen has made it clear that he is not interested in coaching at the moment, and Kingsbury also isn’t in a rush to find a coaching gig.
Names that remain in the conversation are Oklahoma OC Jeff Lebby, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback coach Brian Johnson, and Buffalo Bills quarterback coach Joe Brady.
Former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts was named a finalist for the NFL MVP Award by the Associated Press. Hurts has led the Philadelphia Eagles to tremendous success this season with his contagious winning mentality.
Jalen Hurts, who was 26-2 as a starter at Alabama, has gone 14-1 as a starter in Philly this season. Hurts and the Eagles will play in the NFC Championship game this weekend, and the signal-caller could add a coveted individual honor on top of that.
Bama Hammer will continue to provide updates on Alabama Crimson Tide athletics.
