The Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator search finally came to a close on Friday, as Notre Dame OC Tommy Rees accepted an offer to take the same position at Alabama.
Rees, a former Notre Dame quarterback, served as the OC in South Bend for three seasons after beginning his career as a quarterbacks coach. Many believe he will help instill a shift in the Alabama offense, returning the unit to more balanced, complementary football.
Additionally, Alabama could get back to more pro concepts, establishing the run first and foremost while setting up play-action off the ground game.
Alabama Crimson Tide: Grantham out of the question
With one coordinator locked down, the other is still up in the air. However, Alabama football did manage to get one small step closer to finding its next defensive coordinator on Friday. Todd Grantham, who served as a defensive analyst for Alabama in 2022 and was an option for the DC job, accepted a position with the New Orleans Saints in the NFL.
Grantham interviewed for Alabama’s defensive coordinator role, and was one of just a few confirmed candidates. Because he was already in-house, he was widely considered to be the backup plan if Bama’s other choices fell through.
With Todd Grantham now fully out of the picture, Alabama Crimson Tide fans can turn their attention elsewhere. Jeremy Pruitt is still thought to be the gold-standard hire, but the most important factors in the Pruitt situation are out of Alabama’s control.
Alabama Crimson Tide: Still aiming for new hoops arena
On the heels of Coach Nate Oats’ contract extension and raise, Alabama athletics is still seeking to construct a brand new, state-of-the-art arena for its basketball programs. The new arena is designed to seat over 10,000, and will give the Alabama basketball teams some modern advantages that they lacked in Coleman Coliseum.
While Coleman has been home to countless big Crimson Tide wins, it was originally constructed in 1968 and has some design flaws in the present day. The new arena will ensure a more comfortable and interactive experience for fans and players alike. A new and improved facility would also, in theory, assist Alabama basketball in recruiting.
