Alabama Basketball: Crimson Tide wins another one on the road
Alabama basketball was able to hold a gritty and athletic LSU team at bay, prevailing 79-69 to remain unblemished in conference play. The Crimson Tide is now 20-3 and 10-0 in the SEC.
With Tennessee falling to Florida earlier this week and Purdue going down to Indiana on Saturday, Alabama basketball will once again be in the conversation to be the no. 1 team in the country. Purdue could theoretically stay ranked above the Tide at 22-2 with two close losses. Houston is also in the conversation, but Alabama topped the Cougars on their own floor earlier this season.
Alabama hit 13 three-pointers in its win over LSU, including seven from Rylan Griffen and Nimari Burnett off the bench. Griffen scored 14 points on 5-7 shooting in just 16 minutes, while Burnett added 14 points and three assists. This bench scoring helped Alabama to get over the hump on a day when its star players had lackluster games.
Brandon Miller struggled shooting the ball, going just 3-11 for the game and 1-4 from the three-point line. The freshman phenom still managed to secure a double-double on an off day, finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Fellow freshman Noah Clowney played really well with 14 points on 6-9 from the field, adding five boards and three emphatic blocks.
Junior guard Mark Sears hit three triples in his own right, scoring 13 points to give the Crimson Tide five players in double figures. Senior guard Jahvon Quinerly came off the bench and gave the Alabama offense some flow despite making just one shot. He directed the team like the savvy veteran he is, and racked up a game-high six assists.
Alabama basketball hit 14-15 free throw attempts in the game, melting away any chance the Tigers had to rally late.
The Tide will host a sneaky Florida team in Coleman Coliseum on Wednesday before a tough road stretch, which will see Alabama go to Auburn and Knoxville back-to-back. At 10-0, Alabama maintains a two-game lead in the SEC standings over Tennessee and Texas A&M, and a three-game lead over Auburn and Kentucky.
With eight games remaining in its SEC regular season schedule, Alabama Basketball looks to finish strong and secure its second regular season conference title in three years. If it can manage to do so, Bama will have plenty of momentum heading into the postseason.
