Fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Philadelphia Eagles know DeVonta Smith well. As an Alabama football player, Smitty is legendary. As a freshman he was on the receiving end of one of the greatest touchdown passes in college football history. Fans of the Georgia Bulldogs also know the play well.
It has been no surprise to Alabama football fans for ‘Smitty’ to have quickly excelled in the NFL. No former Crimson Tide receiver holds more Crimson Tide records than Smith.

How good DeVonta Smith was as a college football player might be best defined by his performance in one special game. Against Ohio State in the 2021 National Championship Game, Smith fractured a bone in his hand on the second play of the second half. He left the game, having already amassed 212 receiving yards on 12 receptions.
Smith’s performance on that big stage, was an exclamation point added to the Heisman Award he had won a few weeks earlier.
DeVonta will be on another big stage on Sunday. He and Jalen Hurts, along with their Philadelphia teammates could capture the NFL’s most exceptional prize. If the Eagles do win the Super Bowl, DeVonta Smith will join a small, most elite group of football players.

Marcus Allen played on Southern Cal’s 1978 National Championship team and won the Heisman in 1981. His Oakland Raiders team won Super Bowl XVIII. Charles Woodson won the Heisman in 1997, the same season the Michigan Wolverines won the National Championship. His Green Bay Packers team won Super Bowl XLV.
DeVonta Smith has a chance to increase the small, elite group’s number to four players.
