Fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Philadelphia Eagles know DeVonta Smith well. As an Alabama football player, Smitty is legendary. As a freshman he was on the receiving end of one of the greatest touchdown passes in college football history. Fans of the Georgia Bulldogs also know the play well.
It has been no surprise to Alabama football fans for ‘Smitty’ to have quickly excelled in the NFL. No former Crimson Tide receiver holds more Crimson Tide records than Smith.

How good DeVonta Smith was as a college football player might be best defined by his performance in one special game. Against Ohio State in the 2021 National Championship Game, Smith fractured a bone in his hand on the second play of the second half. He left the game, having already amassed 212 receiving yards on 12 receptions.
Smith’s performance on that big stage, was an exclamation point added to the Heisman Award he had won a few weeks earlier.
DeVonta will be on another big stage on Sunday. He and Jalen Hurts, along with their Philadelphia teammates could capture the NFL’s most exceptional prize. If the Eagles do win the Super Bowl, DeVonta Smith will join a small, most elite group of football players.
Only three football players have won the Heisman Award, played on a National Championship-winning college team, and played on a Super Bowl-winning NFL team. Thanks to DEE SPORTS GUY for making the rest of us aware of this opportunity for DeVonta Smith.
The three players who have already accomplished the amazing achievement are Tony Dorsett, Marcus Allen and Charles Woodson.
Dorsett won the Heisman and Pittsburgh won the National Championship in 1976. His Dallas Cowboys team won Super Bowl XII. Marcus Allen played on Southern Cal’s 1978 National Championship team and won the Heisman in 1981. His Oakland Raiders team won Super Bowl XVIII. Charles Woodson won the Heisman in 1997, the same season the Michigan Wolverines won the National Championship. His Green Bay Packers team won Super Bowl XLV.
DeVonta Smith has a chance to increase the small, elite group’s number to four players.
DeVonta, as all Alabama football fans know, played on two Alabama Football National Championship teams. He won the 2020 Heisman Award.
