Alabama Basketball: Crimson Tide Closing the Deal
Alabama basketball found a way to close out a big comeback win against Arkansas in Coleman Coliseum yesterday. The win came on a Saturday afternoon that saw the Crimson Tide move much closer to securing the outright SEC regular season title.
Alabama used a big rebounding advantage and a 58-point second half to erase a 9-point deficit and defeat the Razorbacks.
The Tide, at 15-1 in the conference, are now two games ahead of second-place Texas A&M (13-3). A&M remains at least two games ahead of the rest of the field. With only two games left in the regular season, it would take an utter meltdown for Alabama Basketball to relinquish the SEC regular season title.
Alabama needs to win just one of its final two games to secure the outright regular season championship. The Crimson Tide will have a golden opportunity to win the title on Wednesday night in Coleman against Auburn. The Tigers will hope to play spoiler, but they have a tough out against one of the most talented, focused, and determined teams in the nation.
Should it beat Auburn at home, Alabama will have already won the title before heading down to College Station for its regular season finale. In this case, a game that had the potential to be a de facto SEC championship game will be far less consequential, albeit still important.
The Aggies play at Ole Miss this week before hosting Alabama. Just like a Tide win, an A&M loss in either game would also be sufficient to lock up the title.
By winning the SEC regular season championship, Alabama Basketball would also earn the top seed in the SEC Tournament in Nashville. As it currently stands, Texas A&M, Kentucky, and Tennessee would join Bama as the top-four seeds in the tournament and receive a double-bye into the quarterfinal round.
Should Alabama Basketball seal the deal, it will be crowned regular season champs for the second time in three years. In 2021-22, the Crimson Tide followed up its regular season championship by winning the conference tournament.
The current Bama hoops team is giving itself a great opportunity to do the same.
