Alabama football NFL Draft bust No. 9: Antonio Langham

1994 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 9
Cleveland Browns, 1994-1995
Baltimore Ravens, 1996-1997
San Francisco 49ers, 1998
Cleveland Browns, 1999
New England Patriots, 2000

Alabama football fans will notice that the rest of the players on this list are considered as big a bust as they are because they were, to a man, drafted in the first round. That is certainly the case when talking about defensive back Antonio Langham.

Langham shone on the defensive side of the ball for Alabama football from 1990 to 1993 and was selected 9th overall in the 1994 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He began his NFL career decent enough, starting all 16 games in his rookie campaign. That year he recorded 61 total tackles and two interceptions. He even finished second in the balloting for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Langham’s big problem was that he didn’t stick around all that long and didn’t stick with one team very long, either. He played just one more season for Cleveland after his rookie year and then moved on to the Baltimore Ravens. He lasted just two years with that franchise.

In 1998, he jumped to the San Francisco 49ers and also started falling off when it came to how often he played. He went from a full-time starter in his first four years to playing just 11 games and starting just six for the Niners.

In 1999 he returned to Cleveland but started just two games and recorded a measly 30 tackles. In 2000 he played his final NFL season with the New England Patriots. It was a quick flameout for a defensive back who once looked like he could have a storied career.
