10 biggest Alabama football NFL Draft busts of all time
Alabama football NFL Draft bust No. 4: Rolando McClain
2010 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 8
Oakland Raiders 2010-2012
Dallas Cowboys 2014-2015
Few Alabama football players were as highly decorated as Rolando McClain when he was selected eighth overall in the 2010 draft. The linebacker was a two-time first-team All-SEC selection and a unanimous All-American in 2009. He was also the first linebacker to win the Dick Butkus Award since NFL Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas.
There were quite a few expectations about what he would do in the NFL, and when he was drafted, it sure felt like the then-Oakland Raiders were the perfect fit for his disposition.
It doesn’t appear that he was near as good a fit as Oakland thought when they picked him. The linebacker lasted just three years as a Raider, and while he didn’t put up terrible numbers, he wasn’t anywhere near the dominant player that would merit a Top 10 draft pick.
McClain ended up playing just three seasons with Oakland and then another two with the Dallas Cowboys, and then he was run out of the NFL entirely. If you can’t tell by this point, having a concise NFL career is one of the easiest ways to land yourself on the list of massive Alabama football NFL draft busts, and McClain had one of the shortest careers in this group.
